Trócaire Better World Award

Each year, as part of the Trocaire education resources, Trocaire runs the Trocaire Better World Award for Primary schools. This award encourages children to work co-operatively in exploring Trócaire’s Lenten theme. Entries can be photographed or sent in original format.
Suggested Activities
- Painting a mural or series of pictures or group drawing.
- Putting on a display looking at life in Ireland and the country featured, showing similarities and differences. Include themes such as homes, food, religion, work, dress, and school.
- Making models displaying family life in the country featured.
- Putting on an exhibition on the Lenten theme for the rest of the school, for parents or in the local library.
- Designing a class book including drawings, simple sentences or stories written by the children.
- Making a video of the children doing role-plays e.g. dramatising the story in the workbook, talking about their worksheets and talking about life for people living in the country featured.
The Awards
Members of each group who submit an entry receive a Trócaire Better World certificate and sticker. In addition, awards are given to groups whose entries are of special merit. The merit awards include artefacts from the country featured, a fair-trade hamper and books/ resource materials for the classroom.
