Tax Efficient Giving & PAYE
Hwiot Welenessa with Yabetega (4) at a Trócaire funded project in Ethiopia
If you donate a minimum of €250.00 during the year and you pay income tax exclusively through the PAYE system, the value of your donation to Trócaire can be increased dramatically.
Trócaire can claim an extra 25% of the value of your donations if you pay income tax at the standard rate of 20%, while we can claim an extra 69% if you pay tax at the higher rate of 41%. All of this at no extra cost to you.
Below you can calculate the full net value of your donation of €250 or more.

Calculate the difference!
The scheme applies whether you donate by a once off lump sum or by separate installments, such as a direct debit.
How it Works: Five Easy Steps
- When making your on-line donation please insert your name and address details as this will enable Trócaire to include you in the annual Tax Reclaim.
- Towards the end of January each year, Trócaire will send an Appropriate
Certificate for Tax Relief for Designated Charities to those donors who qualify
for tax relief.
- You should complete and sign this certificate.
- The completed and signed certificate should be returned to Trócaire
in the enclosed Freepost envelope.
- Trócaire will submit the Certificate to the Revenue Commissioners
who in turn will refund Trócaire the tax that you have already paid
on your donation. Separate tax relief does not accrue to you, the donor.
- The scheme is completely confidential. It will not cost you anything.

Self Assessed Tax Payers
Trócaire is not permitted to claim tax relief on donations from Self Assessed tax-payers. Trócaire will supply Self Assessed tax-payers with an official receipt for their donation and this receipt should be forwarded directly to the Revenue Commissioners who will adjust the individual’s tax liability accordingly.
