Trócaire issues URGENT product recall of Trócaire Lent boxes, model number 2018

The recall comes after members of the public contacted a telephone hotline to report that old Trócaire boxes have been lying around their homes for years making them feel very guilty, while it has been reported that other Trócaire boxes are leaking donations.

“I’ve got a collection of Trócaire boxes from 2014, 2016 and 2017 in my kitchen gathering dust and making me feel shocking bad.” said Mary from Louth, who refused to give her full name.

Many of the small cardboard boxes have been leaking coins, even coins as large as €2 have mysteriously fallen out of the charity boxes.

Éamonn Meehan, Trócaire’s Executive Director said that he doesn’t blame any household in particular but that he has heard of cases of misuse due to ‘bus fare emergencies’ and ‘pint of milk shortages’.

Such extenuating circumstances must be understood but as it is the end of Lent we are now calling on anyone in possession of a Trócaire box to return it immediately to their local school or parish, or send their donations to: Trócaire, Maynooth, Co. Kidare. Callsave 1850 408 408 (ROI) or 0800 912 1200 (NI & UK) or donate online here
